RECYCLING OF TRASH
(Pickup 2nd
Monday of each month)
Reclycling is
now being collected in three categories and only needs to be
divided into three separate containers:
1. GLASS
-
three kinds: clear, dark brown and all other colors. Metal and
plastic covers and rings which were part of the cap must be
removed. Paper labels may be left in place. Glass should be
rinsed clean. NOT acceptable in this category: plate
glass, light bulbs, cookware, drinking glasses or ceramics.
2. ALUMINUM -
all
aluminum (baking trays, soda and beer cans). Remove foreign
materials such as food.
3. SINGLE
STREAM ITEMS -The following can all be recycled together in a
single container:
STEEL/TIN CANS
-
includes vegetable, fruit, juice and maple syrup cans, cat food
cans, foil, lids from frozen juice containers. Please
rinse clean. Note: to make identifying aluminum from
steel/tin easy, use a magnet. It will stick to steel/tin and
not to aluminum.
PLASTICS &
COLORED PLASTIC CONTAINERS –
plastic
containers with the #1 HDPE recycling symbol and colored plastic
bottles that have #2 HDPE recycling symbol on bottom and have
narrow threaded necks (laundry detergent, household cleaners,
and shampoo bottles). Please rinse containers &
remove caps. Not acceptable in this category: car care
product containers such as oil, dry gas or anti-freeze.
PLASTIC MILK
JUGS –
only milk, water
and cider jugs that have #2 HDPE recycling symbol on bottom of
container. Rinse well and remove caps. Flatten to save space.
SODA & LIQUOR
BOTTLES -
Plastic soda and liquor bottles only.
PLEASE
NOTE
PAPER
AND CARDBOARD ARE NO LONGER BEING PICKED UP DOOR TO DOOR, BUT
THEY CAN BE RECYCLED AT THE TRANSFER STATION
Items that can
be brought to the Transfer Station in South Royalton:
NEWSPAPERS,
BOXBOARD, MAGAZINES, and JUNKMAIL –
there is no fee
to the home owner to recycle these items at the transfer
station.
USED MOTOR OIL
AND ANTIFREEZE -
Place in separate
containers and label. See an employee at the Transfer Station.
By state laws an employee has to handle the recycling of these
two materials. Note: there is a charge for the recycling
of motor oil and anti-freeze, this covers the cost of processing
these materials.
LEAVES AND
GRASS -
Leaves and grass
can be composted or used to mulch a garden. If you do not have
the space to deal with your own yard waste, usually a neighbor
will gladly accept it. If you do bring your leaves and grass
clippings to the recycling center, please make sure they are
bagged, labeled, free of debris, and separated from your
garbage.
